About PTSD

All problems of PTSD, not including injury that has resulted in tissue destruction, stem from a single cause and radiate out into peripheral areas of life.

The cause in PTSD is unresolved memory of trauma. The unresolved memory consists of sensory impressions – images, smells, sounds, feelings or even tastes – and body-wide states of activation that may include body and emotional tension and associated neuro-hormonal states. These may present as over or under arousal, or even a state of freezing, (the biological equivalent of ‘playing possum’.) There may be alternation between states of arousal and numbing, and there will almost invariably be resultant negative self-assessment and judgment, guilt or shame about the original event or the ongoing condition that adds to the painful affect and complicates treatment.

Flashbacks, waking or in dreams, incite reliving of the event occur for minutes or even days at a time as the brain tries to resolve the trauma that is still experienced as present. This may include hearing or seeing things that are not present.

The unresolved memory with all of its symptoms may be activated by present sensory impressions that are conscious or unconscious reminders of the original event, thoughts, or even by the internal tensions themselves.

Any and all areas of life may then be affected by the manifestations of PTSD as present sensory impressions and reactions to those impressions become filtered through the veil of the memories of trauma.

Problems with concentration, memory and thinking may occur because of brain circuits consumed with the trauma.

Mood swings, depression or strong emotions like rage, sadness, hopelessness, helplessness, fear or anxiety may be present.

Numbing may occur spontaneously, or escapist behaviors and addictive activities like drug abuse may be used to avoid feeling the painful activation, either consciously or unconsciously.

Impulse control may be negatively impacted, with resultant behavioral problems.

All of these things can detract from work, friendship or intimate relationships.

NeurOntogenics® interrupts PTSD reactions

Most traditional medical interventions attempt to deal with each symptom separately, by using pharmaceuticals to, for instance, induce sleep, decrease anxiety, or alter neurotransmitters through the use of antidepressants.

NeurOntogenics® works directly with the memory imprints to deal with the cause of all these issues. In PTSD, the brain, sensory perceptions, thoughts, emotions and body tensions are locked into reverberating self-reinforcing patterns of activation. These patterns of activation are completely individual in nature. NeurOntogenics® works with each piece of the puzzle, systematically eliminating the automatic reactions to sensory perceptions, thoughts and emotions, mostly by resolving the body tensions associated with them.

Trauma memory works in a self-reinforcing loop. Activation of the memory elicits a pre-determined reaction in the body which is a signal to the brain that there is a problem, and causes the memory to be reinforced, and re-stored with an alert flag. If the reaction in the body is interrupted, the memory will not be re-stored with the alert flag and will not elicit the previous alarm and body reaction when it is elicited again. This change is often permanent.
